“I needed a partnership, not a vendor relationship. Somebody to sit at the table as a partner with me.”

QAD’s standard for a service partner

Not every service partner is built to be a strategic collaborator. Some are order takers — you tell them what you need, and they do it. And that can work for some companies, but it’s not what Levett Washington, QAD’s VP of people services and total rewards, was looking for. With 25 years of consulting experience, he wanted a partner to sit at the table with him and help shape decisions.

OneSource Virtual (OSV) delivered. From identifying gaps in their Workday implementation to advising on the right timing for feature rollouts, OSV brought the kind of expertise that helped Levett and his team see things they might have missed on their own.

Understanding what’s strategic and what’s not

Not every task your team has to do is strategic. Some things just need to get done. The challenge is knowing which ones to hand off and which ones to keep.

For QAD, having OSV as its partner made those decisions easier. With his understanding of which tasks were truly strategic and which weren't, Levett knew he could trust OSV to handle the more routine and administrative ones, such as garnishment processing, so his team didn’t have to.

This alternative to an all-or-nothing approach allows QAD's team to focus on what actually moves the business forward while ensuring that every critical task gets taken care of.

The partnership behind the scenes

How many people do you need to maintain Workday? It’s a balancing act that every organization has to figure out. You need enough people to ensure everything gets done, but not so many that you’re diverting resources from your core business.

QAD found their number: two people. Given everything they manage — time evaluation, payroll, benefits, dashboards — that might sound low, but with OSV's team of Workday experts working alongside them, QAD doesn't need a large in-house team to keep everything running.

"The trick is, I have a partnership behind the scenes," Levett says.

The expertise is there when they need it. It just comes from a partner instead of additional headcount.
