The Great Resignation

With more employees leaving their jobs than any time in the last 20 years,
companies are having to rethink how they attract, recruit, and retain top talent.

It’s being called “The Great Resignation.”
In April alone, a record-breaking 4 million people quit their jobs.
With the current employee exodus from their jobs, many people are trying to understand why.

In a recent conversation with Trey Campbell, CEO of OneSource Virtual, I asked if he had any theories on
what’s behind the so called “Great Resignation.” His answer was so insightful, that I wanted to share it with
you all.
“The pandemic has created a new paradigm across the entire workforce with regard to how to get our jobs
done without physical proximity. It’s opened up a whole new perspective on what you can do from where.
That reflection period and the resulting inward focus has opened our eyes to new options related to what I
can do and what I want to do.”
I think he’s exactly right. For many in the workforce, the last year and a half has been a period of reflection
about work, leading many to reimagine their employment options. Then it hit me.

“The Great Reflection.”

Most seismic shifts in human history were preceded by events or perspective changes that help to explain
their causes. And this Great Resignation is no different, having been preceded by and certainly influenced
by the Great Reflection

The current employee exodus is why recruiting and retention is at the top of every company’s priority list.
And OSV’s podcast show this season is designed to help you think dierently about talent management.
Our published and planned episodes underscore that great employees form the DNA of any great
company, including:

  • Employee benefits programs in a gig economy
  • Career mentoring in the workplace
  • Improving the employee experience of pay
  • Traits of a great people manager
  • Creating an irresistible employee culture among remote workers
  • Why diversity & inclusion matters to top talent
  • The care and nurture of the remote employee’s soul

And of course, OSV has services related to many of these topics.

Are you experiencing the Great Resignation at your company? Whatever the specific reason, no business can have long-term success if people are leaving. This makes the strategic value of HR more important now than ever before.
