Is it over yet?
March 11, 2022 marked the two year anniversary of the WHO’s declaration of this global pandemic.
I remember learning of the announcement while enjoying lunch with a terrific OSV customer on the day before we participated in a Workday-hosted event in New York City.
History will record the harrowing events that unfolded in the months that followed: fear, social distancing, sickness & death, mask mandates, school closings, news reports of the geographical spread, identification of essential workers, distributed workforces, economic uncertainties, vaccination announcements, emerging variants, and much more.
But will history remember the positives that resulted due to the conditions created by the pandemic?
An executive at OSV has referred to these as “COVID Keepers.” Let’s explore a few examples.
Despite living under global pandemic conditions, good things continue to happen all around us.
Many of us have rediscovered a proper work-life balance and the positive effects of “working to live” rather than “living to work.”
We’re attending capacity sporting events while cheering on our favorite teams, or enjoying watching full arenas and stadiums on TV.
Some have initiated virtual family calls on Sunday nights to connect with out-of-town loved ones, and business relationships have been strengthened because video conferencing allows us to invite people into our homes.
Companies have appropriately prioritized the mental health of their employees, acknowledging that caring for the whole person fosters a healthier company culture.
Families are filling booths in local restaurants and vacationing again to experience new places.
We’re seeing a renewed appreciation for in-person gatherings that we used to take for granted: birthday parties, family reunions, graduation ceremonies, weddings, baby showers, and more.
Companies have begun sponsoring creative employee connection programs, like virtual yoga breaks or trivia competitions.
Things may never go back to the way they were, and maybe that’s a good thing. These “COVID Keepers” deserve to outlast the pandemic.
We’re thankful for you
The WHO has indicated that the acute phase of the pandemic may be over by the middle of 2022. And we’ll all celebrate that milestone.
Come to think of it, I should book a trip to NYC to enjoy lunch with that same terrific OSV customer and mark the end of this shared season in the same way we marked the beginning.
The obvious consequence of COVID that we’re all eager to undo is the inability to be together in person—whether at conferences like Workday Rising or visiting face-to-face with customers like you.
We’re thankful for you. If there are any specific ways we can serve you or your employees, please reach out and let us know. Thank you for placing your trust in OSV. You remain at the center of everything we do.
