Are you a doer, a delegator, or a dropagator?

Dear valued customer,

Getting things done is important, as much now as ever. And there are many avenues one might take to accomplish certain tasks, depending on one’s aptitude and role.

The doer does, the delegator delegates, and the dropagator…well, you’ll have to continue reading to learn about that one.

Which one are you?

The Doer

Doers get things done themselves.

They are reliable and faithful, and you can depend on them.

In the workplace, doers are the secret sauce of any successful company. They form the majority of the workforce and smart leaders hold them in high regard, rewarding and retaining them while publicly recognizing their contributions.

The Delegator

But at some point, we all have to get help from others. Delegators enlist help, and the best delegators do so strategically. In the workplace, delegation usually takes the form of assigning tasks to one’s direct reports.

Just because we’re good at something doesn’t mean that we should be doing the task ourselves. Instead, if we’re good at something we should be training others to become good at it, too. And that means giving others new opportunities.

At some point in your career, someone trusted you and risked placing an important task into your hands. Someone delegated to you, and you rose to the challenge. As a result, your experience expanded, your skills improved, and your commitment increased.

View delegation as a privilege, and don’t rob others of opportunities to demonstrate their talent.

The Dropagator

You’ve probably never heard of “the dropagator.” And Googling it won’t help.

That’s because I made the word up.

The dropagator isn’t particularly skilled at doing, and they’re not strategic about delegating. Instead, when they “drop” the ball, members of their team pick it up and get the job done for them.

From the outside, it might look like delegation has taken place. But those with a front row seat know the truth.

Don’t be a dropagator.

The doer, the delegator, and the dropagator. Which one are you?
