5 Trends and Priorities for HR in 2021

It’s not uncommon for business trends to change from one year to the next based on the previous 12 months. But 2020 was a very different kind of year. And given the realities we continue to face it makes sense that we would see the emergence of new trends and priorities in 2021.

In their new annual report, Gartner has listed the trends and priorities they believe will dominate in 2021. They are:

  • Building critical skills and competencies
  • Organizational design and change management
  • Current and future leadership bench
  • Future of work
  • Employee experience

A Partner Can Help You with Your Priorities

According to Gartner, “COVID-19 has worsened the reskilling challenge.” Today’s employees need to learn more skills, with the number of required skills rising by 10% year over year.

But how do you approach reskilling to the benefit of your employees and your business?

Finding the right balance can be a challenge. That’s why having a partner with experience in performance management can be crucial. The right performance management partner will help you navigate a path that benefits your employees and aligns with your broader business goals.

Having an experienced change management partner can also be very important, especially if you’re preparing for a Workday implementation. The right partner will understand that a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn't work. Company size, for instance, is just one part of the equation. But some change management partners are content to begin and end there.

Finally, as companies think about how they can prepare for the future of work, it’s important to note the relationship between future proofing and the employee experience. When service partners apply their resources and tools to work that’s often manual or low value, teams have extra bandwidth they didn’t have before. Instead, employees can put their focus on tasks that are more strategic and more rewarding. This can result in a better employee experience.

Trends Change but A Commitment to Superior Customer Service Shouldn't

While trends, by their nature, come and go, some are more resilient than others.

It remains to be seen how resilient the trends created by COVID-19 will be. Some changes were already underway and were merely accelerated by the pandemic. For instance, many employers were already becoming more open to remote work before it became a reality for so many more people. Similarly, many companies were already on the verge of moving more processes to the cloud. Now even more companies are ready to make that decision.

But while most trends will come and go, the right service partner will evolve alongside those trends so that customers are always equipped with what they need to be successful.
