Culture in Action - OSV Employee Profile: Antonnela Curtis
Everyone who works at OneSource Virtual eventually comes across the saying, “If you’re not changing, you’re not growing.”
For Antonnela Curtis, who’s life so far has been marked by both change and a thirst for growth, this isn’t just a quote meant to inspire, it’s a conscious way of living.
As a child, Antonnela spent her most of her life in Haiti, where her father is from, and the Dominican Republic, where her mother is from.
This changed in 2010, when a magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocked Haiti. She left the island in the aftermath of that disaster, and, at the age of 18, found herself in Romania launching a modeling career that would last for the next four years.
But if starting her life over in a completely new country wasn't enough, she was also faced with the challenge of learning two new languages: Romanian and English. She already knew three other languages from her childhood—Creole, Spanish and French. Learning Romanian and English would bring that total to five.
Armed with her instincts as a self-starter, she turned to the internet to accomplish her goal. “I learned English and Romanian from Google, literally,” she says, adding that after three months she was speaking Romanian.
A new wave of change came Antonnela’s way in 2014, when she married her husband and left the world of full time modeling behind for yet another new life in the U.S.
In spite of her new circumstance, though, she didn’t sit still for long. Eager for a challenge, she walked into the Marriott Hotel across from her home and asked if they were looking for help. Her can-do attitude, along with her fluency in five languages, convinced them to hire her for their front desk. Within a few months, she was the hotel’s front desk supervisor, and soon after, their chief concierge.
“I can learn anything if I’m focused enough,” Antonnela says.
A desire for new challenges eventually led her to OneSource Virtual.
“I did my research and thought it was somewhere I could grow and do more,” she says.
Now, as a member of OSV’s HelpDesk team, she uses her customer service skills, and her knowledge of five languages, to help customers with their Workday questions. Sometimes this involves navigating the customer through Workday to find their answer, and sometimes it means opening a ticket to the appropriate department.
“When that department is finished,” she says, describing how her department interacts with others within OSV, “they’ll respond in the ticket, and we’ll call the customer back to let them know it’s complete.”
As with so many other OSV team members, Antonnela has a special affinity for company values like We Are a Team (Value No. 2) and We Have Fun (Value No. 7). But she also feels a strong connection to our fourth value: Innovation Is the Rule. She points to OSV’s emphasis on innovation as one reason for the company’s remarkable growth. She also credits it for the growth she sees among OSV team members. And that kind of growth is something she’s still hungry for.
“I love what I’m doing right now, but I want to grow,” she says.
Antonnela lives in Las Colinas with her husband. When she’s not helping customers, she still does a little modeling on the side. She also loves playing the piano. “I learned to play about two years ago,” she says, “and now that’s all I do. I go home, find a song and just play.”
